FIST OF DARKNESS
Wrapped in silence, the tight fist of darkness, a dervish spins a knot inside my head nearly stealing my breath and in the long hours so far away from the light I’ve been emptied of words. All that is left is air that escapes from my lips in deep broken sighs and when I am gone the ashes of my skin stain the morning sun.
HALO OF ICE
Today my thoughts are concealed and they fall mute on the end of my tongue. Not even a cry escapes when drops of acid spill on my palm. In the web of my throat my voice is so numb. Like a stone it hasn’t moved nor has it opened. In the intense cold around me I am so still and the moons of my thumbs are blue. Snow pillows my shoulders and a halo of ice heavily fits on my head. Barely do I cling to my edges of hope praying the secrets I’ve kept be hidden in kohl.
